The 15 Best Gifts For Runners
By rundurance, on December 10th, 2010
With Christmas right around the corner, we thought we better get out a list of the best gifts for runners. You can send this to your friends and family, so they know what to get you. After all, you don’t need another lame sweater when you could be getting a case of Jelly Belly Sport Beans!
|
The very best running sock for preventing blisters. These socks are a little pricey for a runner to buy for themselves, but that’s what makes them a great gift. |
|
Every runner needs supplemental energy at one point or another, and Jelly Belly sports beans taste a hell of a lot better than most gels |
|
Nothing is so painfully satisfying as self-inflicted misery caused by the foam roller. But it does help avoid injury, including the dreat IT-Band Syndrome |
A Great Running Book
There are a lot of great running books, but I’d narrow the list down to Running and Being, Born To Run, Once a Runner, The Perfect Mile, 4 Minute Mile, and Chicken Soup For The Soul (Runner’s Edition) |
|
Barefoot running isn’t for everyone, but if the runner in your life is thinking about trying it out, then this will make an excellent present. |
|
For when you don’t have time to take a shower (or you ran to work and there is no shower) everyone will appreciate this gift. I’ve used these and they really do work in getting out the smell. |
|
When your runner needs to carry his own water for a long marathon training run, this is the pack he needs. This hydration pack is the most comfortable and lightweight pack I’ve run with. It has tons of storage, and doesn’t bounce at all. |
|
Help your runner stay warm this winter with some Moeben running sleeves. These sleeves are great for staying warm, but easy to remove once you do get warmed up. |
Gift Certificate To Your Local Running Store
If you just can’t choose what to get the runner in your life, then get a gift card from her local running store. I promise she’ll know what she’s going to buy before she even finished thanking you. |
Spaghetti Dinner
The night before a long run or race, a runner needs a good carbohydrate fueled feast. Show him you care with a night out to a good Italian restaurant. |
|
Everyone win’s when a runner uses WIN sport’s detergent. A lot of detergents claim to specialize in getting out odor from sports, but none of them work like WIN |
|
Help your runner stay warm and prevent injury with a pair of compression running tights |
|
The Nathan handheld water bottle is the best way to carry water on a short run. In the summer it keeps your drinks cold, but in the winter it’s equally as effective at keeping your hands from freezing against the cold water. |
A Deep Tissue Massage
A deep tissue massage will iron out all the knots and pains that your running friend has compiled over the long year of training. Most runners don’t treat themselves to a massage, but I’m yet to hear anyone complain about getting one.

Race Entry
Every runner has a favorite race, so you can’t go wrong with paying the entry fee. Better yet, get creative and sign him up for a new race that he’s never run, he’ll thank you later. |

I am grateful for the great articles like this

Great list. I especially like the race entry idea. It’s completely unique and risky (what if I don’t like the race?) but that makes it all the more fun.
Glad you like it. I once signed my wife up for a 10K without asking, and she was pretty mad for a day or two. But then she trained, had a great race, and now it makes for a fun story.
Thanks for sharing. I just sent this to my non-running family so they know what I need:)
