You should try jogging 2 and a half mile around a park. Do not time yourself at the beginning because it will just increase your pressure. You should try out the 100 meters or 200 meters dash. Basically what you do is run fast around the track. If your time is good, then try out with the 400 meters.

Hi, thanks for visiting us at rundurance. I suggest you start easy, just a mile or so and with no watch. Just run to enjoy it, and ramp up to 2-3 miles. This is what you call a base, and it’s useful regardless of whether you are running sprints or cross-country.

After that, go to practice and experiment with all the track events. Figure out which one is most fun and which one you think you can compete at. For me, I can long but not fast. For others, they love the thrill of sprinting.

Good luck, and let us know how things go.
